Your copy is what decides if a person will buy or not! It’s just like dating, you are attracted to someone, but are they really a good fit? So, you talk to them, get to know them. The same is with your customers. They will visually love the product but the copy is what sells it. Persuasion is an art surely, but you can start mastering it using certain words. Here are Four persuasive words you should be using you start using right away to increase your online sales and get more leads.
You
Out of the 4 words on this page this is the golden word! Here, let’s look at the following sentences
1) “People who love minimalistic design should invest in xyz product”
2) “If you love minimalistic design you should invest in xzy product”
#1 speaks to a larger audience and it does not connect to you on a personal level. It’s like you are viewing it from the outside since it’s not speaking to you directly. You can just roll over your eyes and not give a damn about the product.
#2 speaks to You, the reader. It connects with you on a personal level. The writer is speaking directly to you and so you pay attention. It’s the same technique used when you want someone to pay attention, you say their name out loud when having a conversation. You can’t do that with your customers online so use the word “you” as a substitute.
Talk to your customers using you/your in your sales copy, blog posts, product descriptions, services page etc.
Free
“Free international shipping” is like a sweet melody to my ears. I would add an extra product just to reach the minimum amount required for the free shipping. You must have done this or know someone who does.
Free = Irresistible. People love free stuff. It’s not only because you pay zero but it’s because it causes excitement especially if it’s something that’s valuable to you.
I have discussed this in a previous post, giving away something for free can really benefit you and your customers. They can try your product, see if your brand is good for them and eventually become a paying customer. But as always providing value is important.
New
Look at these two products and pick one
If you picked #2 then that’s the power of the word NEW. It registers as improved and better when compared to the other option. Another example is whenever apple is launching a new iPhone we automatically assume it to have features that the previous iPhones did not have. You will always want better improved products that are new in the market because they will be of a superior quality.
Using the word new in your product descriptions, opt-ins and service/sales pages can peak your potential customers interest. New Products labeled “New In The Shop” will also catch their attention.
Exclusive
Did you know there is a secret apartment at the top of the Eiffel tower? Designer Gustave Eiffel built himself a small apartment where he would hang out with the likes of Thomas Edison.
“Once word got out about Eiffel’s cozy little nest in the sky, Parisian high society turned simultaneously green with jealousy. Eiffel is said to have received a number of sky high (pun intended) offers to rent out the space even for one night. He declined them all, preferring to use the space for quiet reflection, and to entertain prestigious guests such as Thomas Edison himself who gifted Eiffel one of his newfangled phonograph machines.”

If I was a Paris elite I would want to stay there too. Why? Because it’s exclusive, it’s luxury, it’s something that’s not available to all and that makes me crave it. If you offer subscription based services or products using the word Exclusive can help you increase those sales.
Exclusive can also tie into minimal inventory. Telling customers that only “x” amount of certain product is available it can make them act i.e. purchase. Shay Cochrane of the SCStockshop does this best –only 10 downloads per stock image, once it’s sold out, it’s gone! Here is the email they sent today
Now that is exclusive!
You can use these four words right away.Incorporate them in your copy to hook your customers and convert leads into paying customers.
