This guide takes you through all the steps of setting up a woocommerce shop with your genesis child theme.

Plugins to Install
- Genesis Connect For Woocommerce
- Regenerate Thumbnails
- WooCommerce Product Archive Customizer (optional)
First download the Woocommerce plugin and upload or “Add a new” plugin from wp-admin and install.
Then install and activate the Genesis Connect For Woocommerce.You will get a prompt window like the one below
You need to add the underlined code to your theme’s functions.php
add_theme_support( ‘genesis-connect-woocommerce’ );
Go to appearance – editor – and click on functions.php
Add it to the bottom of the functions.php file.
After you activate the plugin the following window will pop up
Hit Let’s Go which will open up this next window
hitting continue will automatically add pages like Shop,Cart,Checkout,My account to your website.The following window opens up after this
This is where you set up your shop’s location & the currency you want to use.If you are selling physical goods then you will also need to set up the units for measurements.Next…
This is where you set up your shipping details.You definitely can do this at a later date as stated.
Number 5 is very important ! trust me ! It’s all about the MONEY ! Add your paypal details or activate any other payments methods from the given options.You can also add other payment gateways from the woocommerce add ons which once purchased or downloaded will be shown under checkout settings.
That’s the basic of setting up woocommerce.
If you want to change the size of the images as displayed throughout your shop page and related pages-Go to
Woocommerce-Settings-Products Tab-and finally display under products tab
This is where you can set the dimensions for the images.Unless the theme set up calls for certain dimensions you can change these to any number.
It is recommended that you set the dimensions before you upload the products.However,if you changed the dimensions after you have uploaded products then activate Regenerate Thumbnails plugin and regenerate all the shop images from the media library of your wp-admin area which will fix any blurry images.
The Optional part – Woocommerce Product Archive Customizer allows you to choose how many products you want to show in a row.It also has an option to add “NEW” to products just uploaded and you can choose for what duration that badge appears.
I know you are still wondering about why I put the dreadful (*) at the beginning of the post.Even if Woocommerce itself is a free plugin,many add ons require you to purchase them…But they are all worth it !
